Google Site Verification in 4 Different Ways
Google Analytics is a powerful tool that lets you get a good look at your website’s performance and shapes most digital marketing campaigns. But before you can access relevant data for your website, you need to prove your ownership of that site to Google. This is done through the website verification process.
Monitor Your Site Activity with Strikingly
Strikingly has a built in web analytics tool that lets you monitor your website’s performance.
It presents data on unique visits through the stats counter. You can find this feature on the Strikingly Dashboard.
Site Verification for More In-Depth Data
But if you want a more granular view of how your website is faring, it’s best to obtain Google webmaster verification and access to Google Analytics. There are many ways to get site verification and they are not as complicated as they sound.
Google Analytics Tracking Code
Adding the Google Analytics tracking code is probably the easiest way to get your website verified.
It is also the recommended route for Strikingly websites because it is very straightforward in nature.
To obtain Google webmaster tools verification, you need to create an account with Google Analytics.
Once there you can get a tracking code that you can add to your Strikingly website.
- Create an account through https://marketingplatform.google.com/about/analytics/
After completing the sign up process, set up a new property where you can enter your website’s URL address.
Copy the unique tracking ID and add this to your Strikingly website through the Settings page.
HTML File Upload
Once you’ve added your site to Google Search Console for site verification, you will have an option to verify ownership by downloading an HTML verification file. This file should be uploaded to your site’s root directory via SFTP. Once you have confirmed a successful upload, you need to click verify on the same page where you downloaded the file.
DNS Record
In this method, you need to add a txt file through your domain provider. If you have obtained your domain through a third-party site such as GoDaddy, you need to sign in to your account and add the new TXT record. Once done, click verify from the same page where you obtained the DNS record.
Google Tag Manager Container Snippet
This is applicable for those with an existing Google Tag Manager account. Simply choose Google Tag Manager from the verification details page and place the <noscript> portion of the code you will get after the opening <body> tag of your page. It’s important that you have publish permissions to Google Tag Manager for this to work.
How Soon Will I See Data on My Website?
Google will start collecting data on your website as soon as the the property for it is added to your Search Console. You do need to give it about 24 hours to start churning out reports on your website.
